Anthony Di Sanza, an active international performer and educator, has performed, presented master classes, and held residencies in North America, Europe and Asia. He has appeared as a visiting artist at over 30 colleges, universities and conservatories, and has performed in some of the world’s most important concert halls. Active in a wide variety of Western and non-Western percussive areas, Di Sanza can be heard on numerous CD recordings with various artists and ensembles, including; Sole Nero-Piano and Percussion Duo, Linda Maxey and the Galaxy Percussion Group, The Wisconsin Brass Quintet, Keiko Abe and the Michigan Chamber Players, the Brass Band of Battle Creek and the Reptile Palace Orchestra. In the spring of 2007 Di Sanza’s solo CD, which features works for multiple percussion, marimba and darabukka, will be released on the Equilibrium label.

Di Sanza has performed with numerous orchestras as timpanist or percussionist, including the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Flint Symphony and the Youngstown Symphony. He currently holds the position of principal percussionist with the Madison Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro John DeMain. He has performed at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) on three separate occasions and regularly studies and performs music from Brazil and the Middle East. The 2006-2007 performance season includes appearances at PASIC, Society of Composers National Conference, as well as performances in the United States and Australia.

Di Sanza is regularly involved in the premiering of new works from numerous composers, including; Akira Nishimura, Maki Ishii, Kaoru Wada, Nebojsa Zivkovic, Keiko Abe, Michael Udow, Dave Hollinden, Joseph Koykkar, Serra Hwang, Joel Nauman Jonas Tamulionis and Dennis Wilson . Anthony’s composition Concerto for Darabukka and Percussion Quartet is published by HoneyRock and has been recorded for release on a HoneyRock compilation CD. Also, his educational keyboard percussion work The Last Days of Winter is published by Alfred/Warner Bros. His new method book, Improvisational Practice Techniques: A Handbook for Incorporating Improvisation into the Percussionist’s Daily Practice Routine, is to be published by RGM Music in early 2007.

Anthony Di Sanza earned the Bachelor of Music Education degree from Youngstown State University, and holds the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in percussion performance from the University of Michigan. Currently Associate Professor of Percussion at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, he teaches undergraduate and graduate level studio percussion, percussion repertoire, and percussion pedagogy, in addition to coaching the Western and world percussion ensembles and the graduate percussion group. Prior to his appointment at UW–Madison, he was Director of Percussion Studies at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. He is an endorser of Sabian Cymbals and Encore Mallets, and is an educational endorser of Pro-Mark Sticks and Mallets.
